About Me

EARLY YEARS....
I started collecting books when I was pretty young. I liked the look and feel of old vintage books. I was an avid reader and escaped into anything I could get my hands on. The old books always drew my attention at yard sales, libraries and anywhere else I found them. The feel of them in my hands, the smell and the history that opened up when I gingerly opened the book up. I wondered about the writer and the reader. I'd look at the date and run my hands down the first page, mentally transporting me back to that time. Imagining the reader in that period, reading this book when it was fresh and new.

There was a time when books were a sentimental gift, that served as the ambassador of words you wanted to say but just didn't quite have the eloquence of classic writers. Looking at some personal notes from the giver, they even expressed condolences, friendships and love with a personal touch, the book; which gave some note in itself that said, "I know you." or "I listen."
I love to open each book slowly - because sometimes there is a little extra treasure place in between the books leafs. A photograph, a personal note on paper, a recipe or a vintage book mark (score!). To me it's the closest thing to a time machine. I've found so many different treasures, even newspaper clippings and pictures.

BEAUTIFUL YARD SALES
I particularly like to go to yard sales, because sometimes the books are from a relatives shelves. Sometimes they were only treasured by the owner and everybody else doesn't get it. I shamelessly don't contain myself. I get so excited when I see certain books with that old look and feel. I start grabbing them up and setting them aside. I'll sit down and look at each one as if introducing myself. Whimsical sounding yes, but it's the rare enjoyments. Then when I make my selections with money in my hand, the owner realizes I'm not just a book person, I really fall in love with them. It's a knowing smile that these books will be in good hands. I'm laymen at this collecting thing but I do my best. If I'm lucky - I get a story and that's just the cherry on top.

AND SO HERE WE ARE.....
One late night, I went to a major bookstore and browsed around. A realization came to me. Sadly books are going out of style. Generations from now, who will wonder about us as readers or find our little personal notes and treasures?  So I decided that I need to share my collection and continue collecting a little more. Maybe get some feedback on some books and just really delve a little more. I hope those that visit , enjoy it as much as I do.
